First Veggies
We choose sweet potatoes, he's allowed one food a week to try, so I hope he likes it! He seemed more interested in the spoon then the food at first but by his second feeding he couldn't get enough. It figures he doesn't like any of the toys we bought him but that spoon is just thrilling to him. Probably trying to figure out where the food comes out. I ate spaghetti shortly aftet he ate, he watched me the whole time while trying to eat his blanket! We have great video of him actually holding the spoon and concentrating real hard then shoving it in his mouth!

Lights, camera, ACTION!
EXTRA, EXTRA read all about it…
Quinn will be in the Courier Post, December 25 edition. Run right out and get this paper! His first public appearance, I guess you could call it that! It's a "baby's first Christmas" page. This paper will be worth money one day! I usually avoid such things but I couldn’t resist, plus I get an employee discount, can’t beat that! Hopefully I'll get the go ahead to put it online!

Standing already
Baby boy hates using any part of his body other then his legs. He will not lie on his belly and practice push-ups, he will not reach for toys (too much). It’s like he just doesn’t care about his arms, he knows they’re there but he thinks of them about as often as we might think of our ears. He loves to stand and kick. If you stand him up and put him against your chest with his feet on your thighs he will not only hold himself up with his feet but he’ll attempt to come off your chest and stand alone. This always results with him landing on his tush on my knees. Now when we give him tummy time he is supposed to learn how to use his arms to roll over. Yeah right, he arches his back and kicks his feet as hard as he can until he kinda flips over to his back all the while the untapped resource of his arms just lie flat. It’s quite awkward to watch.

Steady now
Quinn is learning how to steady himself. I thought it would just magically happen but I can see how he is learning. We like to play drunk baby with him, sounds bad but it’s quite innocent. I put him on my lap in a sitting position and sway him from side to side like he’s a drunk baby, in the beginning he’d just go with the flow but now he attempts to keep himself straight. If I lean him forward he arches his back, when I lean him backward he kicks up his feet, to the right he arches to the left, to the left he arches to the right. It’s interesting to see someone learn such basic skills.

Soccer Mom
SUV, baby on board sign, snack packs… what does this equal? A soccer mom in practice!

The spoon
So it was Quinn’s first experience with a spoon. I didn’t realize how much fun it would be Quinn was confused at first and began to cry but eventually he started thinking it was a game. He loves when you laugh at him so he began to open his mouth and let us put the spoon in because we’d laugh. But soon his taste buds kicked in and he began to see the spoon as food. As we expected he didn’t know how to push it to the back of his tongue so he’d push outward and end up loosing the food to his bib. But he tried his little heart out, by the second feeding I think he managed to swallow half of the allotted tablespoon.

The real Santa?
Quinn saw Santa for the second time this week. Once at his day care and today at, of all places, staples. I went to my mothers today and we decided to get a video cam for the computer (grandma wants to see Quinn more) and who was there but SANTA!

This Santa looked so real that we decided when Quinn gets older we’re gonna tell him that the “the real” Santa chooses a place every year to visit kids and have pictures taken, all the other Santa’s that look fake are just his helpers. We lucked out that year and ran into “the real” Santa!

Solids already
I haven't even gotten rid of my baby belly yet and the doctor is telling us Quinn can start solids in about a week! This is all moving to fast. The highchair that we figured we wouldn't need for quite some time now has to come out! Donna from daycare says she's been sitting him up in a chair since he started there! WHAT? REALLY? he sits up? She says she has to tuck a blanket in front of him so he is assisted a little bit.

I was shocked! So he's on his way to sitting up and he can have rice cereal on a spoon five times a day. The doctor said to go ahead and test baby (jar) foods in about two weeks. I asked her why we were starting him early, I've read that babies aren't ready until after four months? She looked at Quinn and raised an eyebrow and said "I really don't think he'll have any problems" Did she just call my boy fat? :) Ok so he's a chunker, but I love food and damn it my boy is just like me!

His stats now are: 16.3 pounds (90th percentile) and 24 inches (50th percentile)

Bad Parents, example 4
Today was the two-month doctor appointment… Yes Quinn is almost three and a half months. We are slightly behind due to work schedules. He got five shots jammed into his leg. It took him a few seconds to realize the pain but once he did he let loose. I have to say though as soon as you pick him up and love on him he stops crying. He’s a trooper.

So the Doctor tells us to give him baby Tylenol when we get home then again in four hours. So Tony and I figure it’s like when grown ups get shots, it only hurts for the first few seconds. He seems fine, so we don’t bother with the Tylenol. Shit were we wrong, he got the shots around 1pm and at 6pm he woke up screaming in pain. We realize our mistake and Tony runs out the door to the drugstore to buy Tylenol. While I try like hell to soothe him for 15 minutes. Well Tony had run out the door so fast he didn’t realize I still had his Mac card in my purse. (I used it for lunch earlier). Thank god he ran into a co-worker/ friend, Lamont who luckily understood our situation and happily handed him ten bucks!

The Proper Baby Hold
I’ve been feeling like a stupid mother because EVERYONE seems to be able to soothe Quinn with the “proper” baby hold but me! The proper hold, or say they say, is to hold his belly up against your belly and rock him with your arm holding his head for support. Now I’ve practiced this move for months and I’ve finally got it down. But, this move only works to settle him down when he’s sleepy. I have figured out what works for him when he’s hurting and upset. He likes to be held up on your shoulder so his chin rest on your shoulder and he can look behind you while at the same time singing lightly into his ear. He loves this position. It doesn’t matter if he is screaming bloody murder from hunger, gas, and shots. He stops when I hold him like this, he may sob a bit but he is calmer and I love that I can do that for him.

Free Formula vs. Expensive
Today we made the move back to Similac Alimentum Advance. We were given a prescription for a formula called NeoCate, which my insurance plan finally approved after months of asking. This formula cost approx. $288.00 for a ten day supply. So we figured this must be great stuff and were quite excited to start it. But Quinn had other plans, for whatever reason he just could not handle it. He was on it for a week and a half and all he did all day was FART. I’m not talking cutsie, baby farts, more like machine gun farts. I understand gas is natural in a baby but this gas hurt him. He would struggle all day and he had a hard time sleeping. Bottom line is that he just wasn’t happy most of his wake time, which is usually filled with giggles and wonder was replaced with struggling and crankiness. Now I’m not bashing NeoCate at all… Quinn is allergic to milk and soy and he is lactose intolerant so NeoCate seemed perfect since it is absent of all those ingredients but who is to say he doesn’t have an Allergy to something else in the NeoCate? All I know is after three long torturous days in the Children’s Hospital with baby IV’s, painful procedures, needles and morphine… if he smiles and giggles with the stuff that cost eight dollars a day rather than the free prescription well that's what he is going to get. Tony and I will live off Ramon noodles if we have too.

The Poodle Perm
I got my hair permed today, it looks like a frizzy mess! I always ask for long, flowing, wavy perms and I always end up with tight, frizzy locks. Maybe this look is not possible unless you’re a superstar? Why can’t the hairdresser’s just tell you that before dowsing your hair with chemicals promising flowing, beauty and ending up looking like the mutt next door! I suppose I’ll find a way to work with it. Hair grows out so no biggy. All though I must say it sure does look cute in a ponytail.
